Creating brave spaces for all who seek the practice of yoga is an essential role of the yoga teacher. We know through extensive research that trauma is embodied in the very cells of the human body. Somatic practices such as yoga can, and often do, create unexpected sensations and reactions in the bodies and minds of our students due to deeply embedded past experiences. It is therefore incumbent upon us as teachers, to use our words and our bodies in ways that make everyone who enters the yoga room feel safe, seen, and included. In this module, you will learn about the basic science of trauma, how to recognize and address potential problems that may arise, and best practices for creating trauma sensitive and inclusive public classes and private lessons.
